San Miguel remains an unspoilt village; it lies between Granadilla and the Vale de San Lorenzo. It is known for its lovely flower gardens and orange groves, as well as for Juan Bethancourt Alfonso, a famous physician and historian of the Canary Islands. His birthplace lies to the right of the church. Below San Miguel stands the Castillo San Miguel, a castle replica where medieval jousting contests are re-enacted.

San Miguels narrow streets and classic Canarian architecture has enabled the general public to love the historical yet rural feel of this town and county. There is plenty to do and discover. There are local fishing villages, traditional markets with an abundance of fresh products, unspoilt countryside to walk, run, hike, picnic, and enjoy as well as windsurfing, countless water sports, golf courses, horse riding, carnavals,even ralley car racing around the mountains above San Miguel in September.
